Instagram’s “Usage Insights” will tell users if their spending too much time on Instagram.
Last week code buried in Instagram’s Android app revealing “Usage Insights” was discovered by the prolific app investigator Jane Manchun Wong. This new feature will show users their time spent but it’s still not clear how the measurement will be displayed. Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom tweeted “We’re building tools that will help the IG community know more about the time they spend on Instagram – any time should be positive and intentional.” Systrom followed up with another tweet, “Understanding how time online impacts people is important, and it’s the responsibility of all companies, to be honest about this. We want to be part of the solution. I take that responsibility seriously.”
Until the release of Instagram’s “Usage Insights,” we will not know if this new tool will even have an impact on users for spending too much time on Instagram. In the meantime, scroll away.
