Snapchat’s new crime series

If you’ve tuned into Snapchat news at all within the past few months, then you know the app is under hot water. From a poorly upgraded interface, to racial GIFs and an approved domestic violence ad, the app has been through the ringer and can’t seem to get anything right. However, Snap Inc. is persistently continuing to venture into new territory. Snapchat’s new crime series has teamed up with Condé Nast Entertainment for a six episode run titled “True Crime/Uncovered”. The app has never produced a mystery series like this before. Variety shares director George Wasgatt and writer Katherine Chan took on the project’s production. Snap head of original content Sean Mills also headed up the project.

What Snapchat’s new crime series is about

Variety reports Snapchat’s new crime series will feature a new real life crime each episode and only be five minutes a piece. Although the episodes will be released one at a time, users could watch the entire series in the same amount of time that it usually takes to watch one episode of an average show. This should keep viewers engaged and on the edge of their seats. The short snippets will feature interviews and evidence of each crime case. The show’s first episode released on March 12th.

How to find Snapchat’s new crime series

Click open on the Discover page to view the latest of the six episode series. To search for a specific episode simply type in “True Crime/Uncovered” in the search bar at the top of the screen. Snapchat’s icon is the ghost emoji, so one could say it make sense the app decided to dip into the mystery genre. Will it be any good? Users will just have to tune in to the mystery to see. Snapchat will need this as a small feat to snap back into good graces.

Inappropriate domestic violence ad by Snapchat fuels angered Rihanna

Snapchat is under fire yet again after releasing an inappropriate domestic violence ad centering around pop and r&b artist Rihanna. The ad came from a game called Would You Rather where players choose between two scenarios they would rather have happen. In a tasteless matchup it asked users to decide between slapping Rihanna and punching her former flame and singer Chris Brown.

The Back Story

This comparison references a domestic violence case that once went to court back in 2009. The court charged Brown with physically assaulting Rihanna during the time of their relationship. Rihanna was sent to the hospital and sought treatment following the attack. Brown was charged with a felony of inappropriate domestic violence. Later, the pair reunited and Rihanna underwent public scrutiny for taking Brown back. However, it didn’t last long and the pair went their separate ways soon after.

Rihanna took to Instagram

After seeing the ad, Rihanna voiced her outrage Thursday through social media Snapchat rival, Instagram. The star wrote “I’d love to call it ignorance but I know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and make a joke of it!!”.

Snapchat apologized for letting the inappropriate domestic violence ad slip through the cracks in a statement to The Verge: “This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service. We are so sorry we made the terrible mistake of allowing it through our review process. We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”

Since Rihanna has spoken out about the inappropriate domestic violence ad, Snapchat’s stock has tanked, and this isn’t the first time a celebrity has affected the app. Just a few weeks ago Kylie Jenner announced her disappointment with Snapchat’s new interface causing users everywhere into a frenzy and the app to reportedly lose around $1 billion. The app continues to break headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Liverpool’s PL Top Four Hopes

Manchester United Loss Take Away

Mourinho has been tough to beat for Liverpool since taking over Man U. Klopp still seems to be figuring out the best way to play Manchester United. The match was obviously a frustrating one for Reds fans. The slip-ups in our back 4 continued after looking like we were past that stage this season. Obviously, these are games you never want to lose, but it seems like the team is reacting and learning from it in a way that could end up beneficial. Man U is the only team that seems to be able to contain Liverpool. But, we don’t face them again this year (with their UCL exit vs. Sevilla). Liverpool is only 5 points behind United with a lot left to play for. Where should Liverpool’s Top Four Hopes lie?

We Go Again

For a look at the top Premier League standings look here. With the form LFC is in, along with the easy exit schedule, you have to like their chances of qualifying for UCL once again. With a four-point lead over Chelsea who holds 5th place. While Tottenham and Man U are well within our reach if we string some wins together. Liverpool’s Top Four Hopes seem to be optimistic this far into the season. While first place seems to be locked down by Manchester City, the tightly packed 2-5 teams will provide plenty of reason to carry on your Premier League viewing.

Champions League Draw

With a big draw coming up within hours, Liverpool, along with the seven other clubs will figure out their next opponents. Recently, Liverpool fans that have been watching on might want to do the arbitrary and hope to avoid the smaller clubs. The team seems to be more prepared for the “big games”. Although, any UCL game, especially this far in, is extremely important. The only team that I think Liverpool should hope to avoid early on is Bayern Munich. Even though we could certainly get past them if we were to execute the counter-attack. They seem to set up in a way that wouldn’t allow Liverpool to have the free-flowing game in which they’ve found most of their successful results. Would you rather draw a mammoth club like Barcelona, or one of the less decorated clubs like Roma?

Expectations

Liverpool have to juggle the Champions League and their Premier League campaign for the remainder of the season. While Tottenham, Manchester United, and Chelsea can purely focus on their premier league seasons as they are all officially knocked from UCL play. While this seems like an advantage for the competition, you could argue that the teams that were knocked may be a bit deflated. Leading to a less motivated end to the campaign. Though, With Liverpool’s depth and talent, it doesn’t seem like it should be an issue juggling both campaigns. While they will certainly set their sights on second place and their first UCL title since 2005. What will Liverpool accomplish in their 125th season?

Photography Gear for Online Influencers

Photography Gear for Online Influencers

A question most asked by budding influencers is, what camera or gear should I start out with?

First, let me start by saying, I believe that the photographer makes the gear and not the other way around.  It is very easy to get G.A.S. or Gear Acquisition Syndrome.  Having good gear never hurts and it is always fun to try something new.  However, photography can become a very expensive hobby very quickly so it’s best to do some research before investing in your next camera.

Being present online, in my opinion, requires you to have high quality imagery.  You cannot have the same caliber of images using an iPhone alone.

Having good photography as an influencer is not just helpful, it is required.

I started off with a Nikon D3100 and received a Nikon D5200 as a gift a few years later.  The first lens I used was a 35mm f/1.8G lens on each of those cameras and that little baby really creates magic.  It is so versatile for so many different genres of photography from portraits to products to landscapes.  So no matter your industry, more than likely you will also find value in that piece of equipment.  I highly recommend that lens for anyone shooting on a “crop camera.”  If you have questions on what that means just click on the link for a great blog post with more details.

Currently, I shoot with a Nikon D610.  Would I love to own a Nikon D5? YES!  Can I afford it is an entirely different question.

So like me, be patient and also realistic of your skills and your budget.  It’s best to learn your craft before trying to acquire the latest and most expensive gear.  Spending time on getting to know your camera, shooting in manual mode, and becoming passionate about photography is going to take you so much farther in the long run than a shiny new camera will.  I think it’s best to only upgrade once you have outgrown the camera from a technical aspect.

Photography can be difficult to learn in the beginning and at times also frustrating.  However, if you stick with it you can develop photography skills that will launch your business or influence to the next level!

Effective E-commerce Communication

Person shopping on a tablet showing the importance of effective e-commerce communicationEffective e-commerce communication is an absolute must with the growing popularity of online shopping. Statista says “online retail sales will grow to over half a trillion dollars by 2020”. In any communication strategy, it is important to understand your audience. Today’s audience wants to buy online.
The Richards Group argues that the successful brands will be those that make big investments in combining digital and in-store shopping. Amazon is the best example of this. This is because Amazon made its mark with online shopping. However, when it purchased Whole Foods, Amazon confirmed the power of combining a rich digital ecosystem with a network of physical stores.
So what is the reason Amazon is so effective?

Let Your Creativity Flow: Using Social Media Platforms as a Creative Outlet

Art, music, theater, comedy… There are many different forms of creativity available to you. Your imagination is a tool that can make the world a brighter place, so don’t keep it in your head! Allow the world to see the beauty. In this day and age, we could all desperately use a little more lighting. It is easier than ever to reach people all over the globe. Creative and artistic people have the ability to improve mental health, so let that creativity flow! Here are a few ways to begin using social media as a creative outlet:

Using Your Imagination

Have you ever stumbled across a page on social media that spoke to you on a personal level? Each of us have different tastes and hobbies, so variety in content is important. You want to bring in as many people as possible. Use your imagination to determine what your viewers like! Lifestyle blogs, interior decorating Instagram pages, and a Twitter account for artwork are all great examples of creativity on social media. Allow your audience to become interested in your own interests and creations. The trick is in appeal, and appeal is easy if you have passion in your work.

But what is your passion?

Determine Your Creative Outlet and Go!

This part is simple. What appeals to you? What do you like to create? Engage your audience with enthusiasm and pride in your work. Positive energy is contagious, so don’t hide it when using social media as your creative outlet. If music is your passion, share your SoundCloud with every social media platform possible. Let’s say that art is your passion, then push it on Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. If theater is your passion, post your skits on YouTube or Reddit. Don’t forget to use relevant hashtags where they apply!

It is also important to state that building momentum takes time. However, if you enjoy the work your are making, then time is not your enemy!  Be patient, stay positive, and good things will come.

Allow Your Emotions to Flow

Creativity is a very important part of life. It allows us to escape the world for a small amount of time in order to appreciate beauty, in whatever form it takes. Allowing your emotions to flow through your work will do wonders for your mind and soul. Keeping things bottled inside can lead to a vast array of issues, so use your talents to express yourself in wonderful ways.

Social media can be a negative place and could use a boost of positivity and creativity. So next time you sit down to make your art, be sure to share it with the world.

Namaste!

Apartment Marketers to Increase Digital Spending in

Digital Marketing Spending in 2018

Industry looks to social, SEO, 3-D technology, virtual and augmented reality and creating personal experiences in 2018.

At the end of 2017, Wood Partners took a deeper look at its marketing position and decided to make significant adjustments to where it spends its dollars.

“We are a merchant builder, so we are in full lease-up mode at all times, which requires laser-focused marketing,” says Steve F. Hallsey at Wood. “We recognized last year that we are attracting more Millennials into our high-end properties and they are making their decisions on experiences and not by using the traditional marketing sources.”

During its past 10 lease-ups, Hallsey has seen Wood’s leases come from three major buckets. The breakdown is 50 percent came from the Internet. 30 percent came through organic marketing and 20 percent through experiences of the property.

More companies plan to spend more money on digital advertising in 2018

Kettler plans to increase spending social media advertising and AdWords. Fogelman Management Group plans to use search-engine marketing campaigns such as social ads through Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.

Fogelman’s says the company also has its eyes on market conditions. If the market becomes more competitive, the company will be ready.

“We are looking potentially at promotional items for aggressive outreach.

AMLI Residential, too, is exploring 3-D imagery for its apartments, along with virtual reality and augmented reality.

“We are focusing on ways of engaging differently with our residents through things such as text, chat, video and voice,” says Amanda Johnson.

As apartment marketers look to spend on digital strategies in 2018, traditional avenues could continue to lose traction.

The Top 3 Digital Trends for 2018

The Top 3 Digital Trends in 2018

digital trends

As we prepare for a new year, it’s clear that residents and consumers are spending more time online. Here are the top three digital trends that multifamily should pay attention to in 2018:

1. The growth of video consumption

First of all in, online video is here to stay. We’re living in the attention economy—shorter attention spans and mobile usage are influencing video consumption globally. Currently, 50% of all mobile data traffic is coming from streaming video.

Therefore, at the recent Digital Summit Dallas conference, the prediction was shared that 90% of content will be video by 2020. Video gives you the opportunity to humanize your brand and creates a sense of excitement. In the world of social media, there is no question that Facebook is putting video at the center of its apps and services. Video is evolving and there are three distinct avenues for it in social: professional video, pre-recorded mobile video and live video.

Consequently, not creating videos on social yet? You’re already behind. It’s time to decide which platforms you want to invest more time in and upgrade your strategy.

2. Measuring social media and content ROI

Second of all, 2018 will be a big year for social media marketers. To secure a seat at the table, it will become increasingly important to prove the ROI of their efforts—because without accurately measurement and reporting, it’s difficult to earn buy-in from the executive level and increase budget. However, knowing what specific variables to measure and how to tie them back to business outcomes can be a challenge. According to the Hootsuite 2018 Social Trends Survey, 40% of respondents struggled with knowing the right metrics to track.

As you plan for 2018, we recommend starting by defining goals and benchmarks per channel— including typical metrics such as likes, followers, and mentions along with broader metrics, such as new leads generated, conversions, and existing leads touched.

Furthermore, a key way to track digital success is through Google Analytics. Create tracking parameters for any shared content that links back to your website and regularly measure performance. Social media tools like HootsuiteHubSpot and Sprout Social are great resources to help you assess your social growth and engagement. Integrating with a CRM tool, such as Salesforce, is another effective way to track across the entire customer lifecycle and attribute leads back to social media.

3. Artificial intelligence

Finally, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become part of everyday life, at work and at home. You probably have had some experience with this technologythink Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri or Google Home. Calls and emails will be replaced with chatbots that provide smart and instant responses.

So, what does AI mean for the future of multifamily? As customer demand grows, AI will be there to manage the day-to-day flow of work. According to TechEmergence, 85% of customer interactions will be managed without a human by 2020. Calls and emails will be replaced with chatbots that provide smart and instant responses to customers.

As a result, Taco Bell created Tacobot, the new taco robot for Slack, which allows customers to place orders via chat. Why you ask? They believe that “no matter how slammed, stressed or on a roll you might be, no one should work hungry.” That’s something to tacobout.

When it comes to present-day education, a good experience is what a student wants most and while technology advances, the techniques to teach students should as well.  The world is immersed in technology and the more it can be incorporated in the classroom the more it will serve as a tool and less of a distraction. Artificial Intelligence in Retail- One Big Flop?

Artificial Intelligence in Retail- One Big Flop?

Companies overestimate Artificial Intelligence in Retail. Retail behemoths Target and Amazon are investing resources into machine learning, which may not prove to be worthwhile. The issue is, most of what is being coined “AI” in retail is not true Artificial Intelligence.

Using the “AI” that worked online in physical stores comes with risk. Larger trends towards automation could be overlooking how important physical presence is in the shopping experience.

AI myths & AI hype

Many retailers are forgetting what really helps customers: In-store assistance from human workers. People that can individually help with shopping needs. Artificial intelligence can help human employees with that task. The two can work in tandem.  Continue reading

Social Media & Lifestyle: Tactics for Creating a Healthy Balance

The world is moving fast, and the world of social media is moving faster. There is very little time to catch up to the constant changes and updates to platforms, and attempting to stay on top of it can eat up a lot of the time in your day. Living your life in a healthy way is the first step to enjoying the present moment, although sometimes catching up with friends and family on social media can provide a sense of joy. It is important to understand that a healthy lifestyle and social media use do not have to be mutually exclusive. Take a look at these tactics for creating a healthy balance between the two:

Keeping a Balance in Browsing Time

Browsing through social media platforms of any kind is a perfect example of the word distraction. Whether or not you are distracting yourself from real life, there are even more distractions while scrolling. One click leads to another, and an hour of your day has been lost! Using social media in moderation is a very important tactic to learn. Maintaining a balance in your browsing time between platforms will make it harder to lose time out of your schedule. For example, spending 5 minutes on Facebook and another 5 minutes on Instagram is a smart way to stay on track, and allow for variety in your browsing.

Creating a Daily Routine

Which part of the day are you most or least productive? Are you a morning bird or a night owl? It is important to browse social media in the “down time” of your day, and not when you are trying to get things done. Creating a daily schedule is a very healthy habit that will add structure and help you stay on top of your work. Just like any other activity, budget some time for social media in the slow periods. If Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat are things you enjoy, then treat them as a reward for hard work. This will make your social media time even more enjoyable.

Committing to Your Lifestyle

Committing to a healthy lifestyle takes significant time and effort, and distractions are always pulling us in other directions. By choosing to live a healthy lifestyle with social media use in moderation, you will notice wonderful mental benefits. The first step is to determine which hours of the day are best suited to browse, and from there you can pencil it into your schedule. Commitment is achieved through repetition, and by following your own schedule, everything will fall into balance. With balance comes clarity, and with clarity comes happiness.
