Yelp Isn’t Just for Wannabe Food Critics
I was once sharing my affinity for Yelp and asked my friend if she uses the app. She said, “No, Yelp is for wannabe food critics.” I understood what she meant, but I use yelp in a much different way. Here are five reasons Yelp isn’t just for wannabe food critics.
Yelp isn’t just for wannabe food critics
Photos on Yelp
Along with user reviews, each restaurant or business has a photos and videos section that can be sorted by food, drink, inside and outside. If you can’t decide what to order, take a peek at the photos. This tool is extremely useful as most restaurants don’t have photos of food on their menus. This tool is also useful to see what the restaurant looks like on the interior prior to arriving.
Sorting by Amenities
When searching for a restaurant to go to, a number of things can factor into a decision based on preference. Some people only go to restaurants that take reservations and like the convenience of valet. You can filter your search to include by distance, most reviewed, delivery, outdoor seating, good for families, dogs allowed, happy hour and so much more.
A number of my friends have lists either in their iPhone notes or physical lists of places they like and or want to try. The bookmarks feature of Yelp is a great tool because it can be your version of a list with all the information that yelp has to offer.
A relatively new feature to yelp is “My Collections”. “My Collections” is a way to sort and categorize your bookmarks. My ever-evolving collections list includes “to try”, poke, sushi, Mexican, sweets, brunch, coffee, Italian, Asian, healthy and out of town adventures. This way makes it is easy for me to decide where to eat locally or plan where to eat when I travel to a new city.
The Local Yelp
Yelp has a weekly curated local topic that features everything from adventurous date night spots to fitness and where to find acai bowls.
The app is free to download and is right at your fingertips wherever you are. I hope you play around with the app and discover why Yelp isn’t just for wannabe food critics.
